Types of Oil that are Not Good for Cooking – Oil is usually used for cooking or as an ingredient for making food. However, not all types of oil can be used for cooking.
Olive oil, canola oil, and sesame oil are some examples of the most recommended oils for cooking. This is because all three contain unsaturated fatty acids that are healthy for the heart and blood circulation.
However, not all oils can be used for cooking. In fact, even oils that are known to be healthy are not necessarily good for cooking.
1. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a very popular type of oil and can be easily found in stores. Unfortunately, coconut oil is not a good cooking oil for two reasons: its low smoke point and high saturated fat content.
With a smoke point of 176 degrees Celsius, coconut oil should only be used for low-to-moderate cooking, such as pancakes or scrambled eggs. What’s more, the saturated fat in coconut oil can increase bad LDL cholesterol in addition to increasing good HDL cholesterol.
2. Linseed oil
Flaxseed oil is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids and a rich flavour. However, this oil is very easily damaged when exposed to heat at any level so it has limited application in the kitchen.
Instead of cooking, flaxseed oil is best used directly in sauces, sprinkled on toast, or in salads. Also, make sure you store flaxseed oil in the refrigerator as it can quickly go rancid at room temperature.

3. Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil contains about 70 percent omega-6 fatty acids. The body actually needs omega-6 oils in small amounts. However, too much omega-6 will actually cause inflammation that can trigger heart disease and other health problems, such as cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Oils that are high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fats, such as grapeseed oil are very fragile and prone to oxidation. When oil is oxidized, it creates free radicals that can also cause cancer, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, and thyroid damage.
4. Vegetable oil
Vegetable oil refers to any oil that comes from a plant source and its effects on health depend on the source and what it is used for. However, about 99 percent of a bottle of vegetable oil is actually just soybean oil.
Soybean oil is made up of 54 percent omega-6. As discussed earlier, too much omega-6 can cause inflammation and health problems. Although it gives some bad effects when processed as oil, pure or fermented soybean seeds are actually rich in phytic acid and trypsin inhibitors which are good for health. So, you don’t need to be afraid of consuming pure soybean seeds.
